Pool Deck Paver Repair Around Jacksonville
A pool deck takes more abuse than any other paver surface at your home. It is wet almost every day, it bakes in full sun, it gets splashed with chlorinated or salt water, and it sits on soil that was dug up and backfilled when the pool went in. That combination is why pool deck pavers settle, separate from the coping, and lose their joint sand faster than a driveway does.
We’re Jax Exterior Cleaning & Paver Sealing. We repair pool deck pavers and travertine around Jacksonville, St. Johns County and the Beaches, then seal them with a matte finish made for wet, barefoot areas. This is one part of our wider paver repair service.
Common Pool Deck Paver Problems
Settling along the pool
Soil around a pool shell is backfill, and backfill keeps settling for years. The pavers closest to the pool often drop first, leaving a gap at the coping or a low spot where water sits.
Gaps at the coping
When pavers pull away from the coping, water runs down beside the pool and can wash out more base. We reset the pavers tight and level to the coping.
Sunken areas near the screen enclosure
Screen enclosure footers, downspouts from the enclosure roof and irrigation outside the cage all concentrate water at the deck’s outer edge. Low spots there are very common.
Loose pavers and lost sand
Splash-out and hosing down the deck wash joint sand away. Without sand, pavers rock and edges chip.
Algae and slick spots
Shaded corners and low areas that stay wet grow algae and get slippery. Fixing the low spot and cleaning the surface helps a lot.
Travertine and Paver Pool Decks
Many pool decks around Ponte Vedra, Nocatee and St. Johns are travertine rather than concrete pavers. Travertine is a natural stone, so it needs a gentler clean and a sealer suited to stone. The repair method is similar: lift, correct the base, reset level, re-sand and seal. We handle both.
How We Repair a Pool Deck
- Free look. We check for low spots, gaps at the coping, loose pavers and where water is coming from. You don’t need to be home.
- Protect the pool. We work carefully so base material and debris stay out of the water.
- Lift and rebuild. We remove the affected pavers, rebuild and compact the base, and set a level bedding layer with drainage away from the pool and the house.
- Reset and re-sand. Pavers go back in tight. Joints are filled with silica joint sand, or colored joint sand as an upgrade.
- Clean and seal. The deck is cleaned and sealed with a matte-finish sealer.
Why Pool Decks Get a Matte-Finish Sealer
A glossy, wet-look finish looks great on a driveway, but it is not what you want under bare, wet feet. Pool decks and travertine get a matte-finish sealer by default. It protects the surface without adding a slick shine.
Sealing Protects the Repair
Once your pool deck is level, sealing is what helps keep it that way. It locks joint sand in place against splash-out and hosing, slows algae and staining, and protects color from constant sun and pool chemicals. Our paver sealing comes with a 3-year sealer warranty, and the repair is backed by our 60-day craftsmanship guarantee.
A Good Time to Fix the Deck
If you are planning pool resurfacing, new screen work or a party, it is worth fixing the deck first so everything finishes level and clean. We can usually work around your pool schedule. If you are not sure whether your deck needs repair or just a clean and seal, we’ll tell you honestly at the estimate.
Pool Decks at Coastal and Inland Homes
Pool decks near the Beaches and Ponte Vedra deal with salt air and sandy soil, while decks in St. Johns and Mandarin often sit under oaks that drop leaves and stain the surface. Both settings wear down joint sand and color. When we repair a deck, we also look at what is washing onto it, from enclosure gutters to sprinkler overspray, so the fix lasts. Keeping pool water chemistry balanced and rinsing splash-out off the deck now and then also helps.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do you repair travertine pool decks?
Yes, along with concrete pavers. Travertine gets a stone-safe clean and matte sealer.
Will repair work get into my pool?
We take care to keep sand and debris out of the water and clean up when we’re done.
Can I swim right after?
We’ll tell you how long to keep the deck clear based on the sealer and weather.
Do you work in gated communities?
Yes. We regularly work in gated and HOA communities across the area.
Why is my pool deck sinking near the coping?
Backfill around the pool shell keeps settling, and water running off the deck washes base away. We rebuild that base and reset the pavers level to the coping.
