Salt in the air around the clock. Blowing sand that gets into everything. Full sun with no canopy to soften it. Wind-driven rain in the summer, and humidity that never really lets a surface dry. Pavers out here take more abuse in five years than an inland driveway takes in ten, which is why sealing at the Beaches isn’t a nice-to-have — it’s the difference between maintaining a driveway and replacing one.

Salt and Sun Together
Either one alone is manageable. Together they compound.
Salt settles on the surface and works into the pores of an unsealed paver. UV breaks down the surface from above. The result is the chalky, washed-out look you see on older Beaches driveways — faded color, and eventually the smooth top layer wearing away until the little white aggregate stones start showing through.
A sealed paver doesn’t have open pores for salt to get into, and the sealer takes the UV hit instead of the paver. That’s the whole argument for sealing out here, and it’s why we’d rather see you every three years than see you shopping for replacement pavers.
Blowing Sand Fills Your Joints With the Wrong Sand
This one is specific to the Beaches and people rarely think about it.
Beach sand blows into paver joints constantly. It looks like your joints are full — but beach sand is fine, round, and loose. It doesn’t lock. It doesn’t support the pavers the way proper joint sand does, it washes straight back out in the next storm, and weeds root in it happily.
So a driveway can look like it has plenty of sand in the joints while functionally having none. When we re-sand, we clean the joints out and refill them with silica paver joint sand, then seal over it so what’s in there stays in there.
Pool Decks, Pool Cages, and Screen Enclosures
Most Beaches properties we work on have a pool, and the deck takes the worst of it — salt, sunscreen, wet feet, and sun all day.
Travertine pool decks get a matte finish as our default rather than the wet look. It protects the stone without turning the deck into a mirror and without changing how it feels underfoot. Brick paver decks can go either way depending on what you’re after.
We also clean pool cages and screen enclosures, which out here collect salt film and organic growth faster than anywhere else in our service area. It’s a separate service from a house wash, but it’s usually worth doing at the same time.
Salt Film on the House Itself
While we’re on the property, the same salt that’s attacking your pavers is on your siding, soffits, eaves, and windows. Our house wash is a soft wash — sodium hypochlorite and soap, not high pressure — and it covers the exterior windows, soffits, eaves, and exterior gutters. Roof and screen enclosures are separate services.
Our Process
Inspect and flag any repairs. Pressure wash to remove salt film, dirt, algae, mildew, and any old failed sealer. Replace the joint sand with silica — tan, black, brown, or grey. Apply our premium two-part water-base urethane sealer, two coats standard, three on never-sealed brick pavers. Then cure time.

Frequently Asked Questions
How often should I seal at the Beaches?
Every two and a half to three years, and we’d lean toward the shorter end for anything with direct ocean exposure. A cleaning every year in between keeps salt film and organic growth from building up.
My joints look full of sand but weeds still grow. Why?
Because it’s blown beach sand, not joint sand. It’s too fine and too loose to lock, so it doesn’t support the pavers and it doesn’t stop anything from rooting. It has to come out and be replaced with proper joint sand.
Will sealer make my pool deck slippery?
It’s the right question to ask and the answer depends on your surface, the finish, and how the deck drains. We’ll walk it with you at the estimate and give you a straight answer rather than a sales pitch.

Yes. Screen enclosure and pool cage cleaning is one of our services, and at the Beaches they get dirty fast.
