If you’re in St. Johns or Fruit Cove and your pavers have sunk, shifted or started sprouting weeds, you’re not looking at a sealing job yet. You’re looking at a repair. We fix the problem underneath first, then seal over the finished work so it stays fixed.

Paver driveways, walkways and pool decks are everywhere in 32259, and they all deal with the same things: sandy soil, heavy summer rain and full Florida sun. Over a few years that combination washes out joint sand, softens the base and lets sections drop. Catch it early and it’s a small repair. Let it go and the problem spreads.

We’re Jax Exterior Cleaning & Paver Sealing, a licensed and insured Jacksonville company repairing and sealing pavers since 2019. Paver repair is our specialty, and St. Johns and Fruit Cove are core areas for us.

Paver Problems We Fix in St. Johns & Fruit Cove

Sunken or sinking pavers

A low spot at the driveway apron, a dip where water sits after it rains, or a section that rocks when you drive over it. That’s the base underneath washing out or compacting, not the pavers themselves. Water collects in the low spot and washes out more base, so it keeps getting worse until the base is fixed.

Shifting pavers and open gaps

Pavers drift apart when the joint sand washes out, or when the border wasn’t held in place with enough concrete. Once the field starts spreading, there’s nothing locking the pavers together. We close the gaps, reset the edge where it has failed and refill the joints.

Weeds and ants in the joints

Both mean the same thing: the joints are empty. Pulling weeds or sweeping up ant piles doesn’t fix it, because the gap is still there. Refilling the joints with fresh sand and sealing over it takes the space away.

Sand washing out after storms

A single summer storm moves a lot of water across a driveway, and it carries joint sand out with it. This is the one to catch early. Once the joints drop below the surface, the pavers lose the support that keeps them tight, and that’s how a sealing job turns into a repair job.

Pool decks that have settled

Pavers around a pool can settle or sink over time. We reset them level and flush. Travertine pool decks get sealed in a matte finish by default, so the deck is protected without a high-gloss shine.

Cracked or broken pavers

Tree roots, heavy loads and ground movement can crack individual pavers. We replace them, and in most cases we can source matching pavers for common installations. Older pavers may show slight color differences from weathering.

Repair First, Then Seal: How We Do It

1. Free estimate

We measure and look at the job, which takes about 5 to 10 minutes, and you don’t need to be home. We’ll tell you whether you need a repair, a clean-and-seal, or both.

2. Fix the base

We carefully remove the affected pavers without damaging the ones around them, then regrade and compact the base so it’s stable and water runs off the surface instead of under it.

3. Reset the pavers

We relay the pavers level and flush with the surrounding surface and close up any gaps along the edges.

4. Clean the whole surface

We pressure wash the entire driveway, walkway or pool deck to remove dirt, algae, mildew and any old failed sealer. Sealer needs clean pavers to bond and last.

5. Re-sand the joints

We refill the joints with silica paver joint sand. Want a custom look? Colored joint sand is available as an upgrade, so you can match your pavers or set them off.

6. Seal and cure

We apply our premium two-part water-base urethane sealer: two coats as standard, three on brick pavers that have never been sealed. Our standard is a color-enhancing wet look, or matte if you’d rather skip the shine. Then it cures, usually 24 to 48 hours depending on temperature and humidity.

Most residential repairs are done in a single day. Larger jobs with significant base work may take two.

Why Seal After a Repair?

A repair fixes the base. Sealing is what keeps it fixed. The sealer locks the new joint sand in place so the next storm can’t wash it out. As long as the joints stay full, the pavers stay locked together, and weeds and ants have nowhere to go.

Sealing also protects the pavers themselves. Unsealed pavers fade in the sun and start to break down: the smooth top layer wears away and little white aggregate stones show through. A color-enhancing sealer brings the color back and puts a barrier between your pavers and the sun and rain.

It also makes the repair disappear. Reset pavers and fresh sand can look different from the rest of the driveway. Cleaning and sealing the whole surface gives you one uniform, finished look.

Our sealer carries a 3-year warranty, and all other work is backed by a 60-day craftsmanship guarantee. Plan to reseal every two and a half to three years, with a cleaning each year in between. Want the full details on sealing? See our paver sealing page.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need paver repair or just sealing?

If pavers have dropped, rocked, lifted or spread apart, that’s a repair. If they’re level but faded, green or missing joint sand, a clean, re-sand and seal is usually enough. We’ll tell you which one you have at the free estimate.

Will I have to replace my whole driveway?

Almost never. Most paver damage doesn’t require full replacement. We remove and reset the affected area and correct the base. Full replacement only makes sense when roughly 40 to 50 percent or more of the paver field is compromised, or the base has failed across the entire area.

Can you match my pavers if some are broken?

In most cases, yes. We can source matching pavers for most common installations. Older pavers may show slight color variation from weathering, and cleaning and sealing the whole surface afterward helps everything look uniform.

How long does paver repair take?

Most residential repairs are done in a single day. Larger projects that need significant base work may take two days. If we’re sealing too, allow 24 to 48 hours of cure time before driving on it.

My pavers are brand new. When should they be sealed?

We recommend waiting about 90 days after installation. That lets the pavers cure and gives any efflorescence time to work its way out.

Do I need to be home for the estimate?

No. We measure and look at the job, which takes about 5 to 10 minutes, and you don’t need to be there.
