Pool Deck Paver Sealing in Jacksonville

A pool deck lives in a harsh spot: bare feet, splash-out, chlorine or salt water, sunscreen, and full Florida sun all day. Sealing protects the pavers from all of that, keeps the joint sand where it belongs next to the pool, and makes the deck far easier to keep clean.

We’re Jax Exterior Cleaning & Paver Sealing, licensed and insured since 2019. This page covers sealing pool decks. If your deck has sunk, cracked or pulled away from the coping, start with our pool deck paver repair page. For our overall process, see our main paver sealing page.

Why Pool Decks Need Their Own Approach

A driveway is about weight. A pool deck is about water and feet. Splash-out and salt-water pools can leave white mineral residue and wear on the pavers. Sand washes out of joints into the pool and the skimmer. Shaded corners turn green fast. And because people walk barefoot, the finish matters. A slick, glossy deck is not what you want around a pool.

Slip Resistance Comes First

For most pool decks, we recommend a natural or low-sheen finish instead of a high-gloss wet look. A natural look keeps the texture of the paver so it stays comfortable and less slick when wet. If you love the darker, richer color of a wet look, we can talk through options and what to expect around the water. Our wet look vs. natural page explains the trade-offs.

Salt Water and Chlorine

Salt-water pools are common around Jacksonville, Nocatee and Ponte Vedra. Salt and pool chemicals can leave crusty white residue and can wear unsealed pavers and travertine over time. Sealing slows water and salt from soaking into the surface, so the deck is easier to rinse clean and holds its color longer. If your pool deck is travertine, see our travertine sealing page for stone-specific details.

Keeping Sand Out of the Pool

Low joints next to the coping are a common complaint. Every rain and every splash moves a little more sand, which ends up in the skimmer basket. We clean the joints out, refill them with silica joint sand, and seal to lock it in. Colored joint sand is available as an upgrade if you want the joints to blend or contrast with the pavers.

Repair First, Then Seal

If pavers near the coping have dropped, or there are dips where water puddles, those need to be fixed before sealing. We reset the affected pavers, then clean, sand and seal the whole deck so it looks consistent. See our paver repair page for more on that work.

Our Pool Deck Sealing Process

  1. Inspection. We check for settling at the coping, low joints, residue and old sealer.
  2. Clean. Pressure washing and surface cleaning, taking care around the pool, screens and landscaping.
  3. Re-sand. Silica joint sand, or colored sand as an upgrade.
  4. Seal. Usually a natural or low-sheen finish for traction.
  5. Cure. We’ll tell you when it’s ready for bare feet and furniture.

Pool Cages and Screened Lanais

Many pool decks here sit under a screen enclosure. We work inside cages all the time and protect the screen, furniture and pool equipment as we go. Just let us know about pets and how to get into the backyard.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will sealing make my pool deck slippery?

We usually recommend a natural or low-sheen finish around pools so it stays comfortable and less slick.

Is sealing safe with a salt-water pool?

Yes. Sealing actually helps protect pavers from salt and chemical residue.

Can we swim the same day?

We’ll give you a timeframe based on the sealer and weather. Plan on staying off the deck until it has cured.

Do I need to move my pool furniture?

It helps if you can, but we can work with you on it. Let us know when you book.

Do you seal travertine pool decks too?

Yes. See our travertine sealing page for details.
