Patio Paver Sealing in Jacksonville
Your patio is where you actually spend time outside: the grill, the table, the fire pit, the kids and the dog. It also tends to sit in shade, under trees, next to the lawn and the sprinklers, which is exactly where mildew, weeds and ants show up. Sealing a patio keeps it clean, comfortable and looking like it did when it was installed.
We’re Jax Exterior Cleaning & Paver Sealing, licensed and insured since 2019. This page covers backyard patios, lanais and walkways. For our full process, see our main paver sealing page.
Backyard Problems Sealing Helps With
- Grease and food spills around the grill and outdoor kitchen
- Green and black mildew in shaded areas and under oaks
- Ant hills pushing sand out of the joints
- Weeds along the edges next to the lawn
- Fading on sunny patios with no roof cover
- Rust from furniture legs and well-water irrigation
Grills, Fire Pits and Outdoor Kitchens
Grease is one of the hardest stains to get out of an unsealed patio, because it soaks right into the paver. We pre-treat grease and food stains before sealing. Once the patio is sealed, new spills sit on top long enough to clean up. Fire pit areas get soot and heat discoloration, and we’ll let you know what can be lifted before we seal.
Shade, Moisture and Mildew
Patios in shade stay damp longer, so mildew comes back faster. Sealing doesn’t make mildew impossible, but it makes the surface much less porous, so a light rinse handles what used to need a deep clean. Many homeowners in older, tree-lined neighborhoods like Mandarin and San Jose notice the biggest difference here.
Uneven Patio? Repair First
Backyard patios often get uneven where water runs off the roof, where roots grow under them, or where the edge next to the grass has given way. Sealing over those spots keeps the trip hazard. We re-level and fix the edges first, then seal. See uneven patio and trip hazard repair and our main paver repair page.
Finish Options for Patios
Patios can go either way. A wet look gives a rich color that shows off the pavers when you’re entertaining. A natural finish keeps a more subtle look and texture. Both lock in the sand and protect the surface. Colored joint sand is an optional upgrade that can make the pattern stand out.
Our Patio Sealing Process
- Inspection. We check for settling, edges, stains and old sealer.
- Repair if needed. Uneven pavers and edges are fixed first.
- Clean. Pressure washing, surface cleaning and stain pre-treatment.
- Re-sand. Silica joint sand, or colored sand as an upgrade.
- Seal and cure. We’ll tell you when you can put the furniture back.
Screened Lanais
Many patios here are under a screen enclosure or a covered lanai. We work in those spaces regularly and protect screens, walls and furniture as we go.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need to move patio furniture?
It helps if you can. If not, let us know and we’ll work it out with you.
Can you get grease stains out?
We pre-treat them and most lighten a lot. Some old grease stains won’t come out completely, and we’ll tell you before we start.
Will sealing stop ants and weeds?
It locks the joint sand in place, which makes it much harder for ants and weeds to get started. It won’t make them impossible, but it helps a lot.
Can you seal my walkway and patio at the same time?
Yes. Most people have us do the patio, walkways and driveway together so everything matches.
How long until we can use the patio?
Foot traffic is usually fine within hours. We’ll give you an exact time for furniture.
