Gutters have one job: move water off your roof and away from your house. When they're packed with oak leaves and pine needles, they stop doing it — and the water goes somewhere else instead. Usually somewhere expensive.

What Actually Happens When Gutters Clog
The overflow is the part you notice. The damage is the part you don't.
Water backs up under the shingles. A full gutter has nowhere to drain, so water pools at the roof edge and works its way beneath the bottom row of shingles into the decking.
Fascia and soffits rot. The wood behind and above the gutter stays soaked. In Florida humidity it never fully dries, and eventually it goes soft.
The gutter pulls away from the house. Wet debris is heavy. A clogged gutter full of soaked leaves puts far more load on the brackets than they were built for, and they start to sag and separate.
Water dumps at your foundation. Instead of running out to a downspout and away, it pours straight down along the wall — right where you least want concentrated water.
And it wrecks what's underneath. This is the one most people miss. An overflowing gutter aims a stream of roof water at one spot several times a week during the rainy season. If that spot is a paver driveway, walkway or patio, it washes the base and joint sand out from under it — and a sunken section of pavers is a much bigger repair than a gutter cleaning.
Signs Your Gutters Need Cleaning

The clearest sign there is. If water sheets over the front of the gutter instead of running to the downspout, it's full.
Plants growing out of your gutters
Seedlings and weeds in a gutter mean there's enough packed soil up there for things to root in. That's well past due.
Downspouts that trickle or run dry in a downpour
If it's pouring and nothing much is coming out of the downspout, the blockage is in the gutter or in the spout itself.
Sagging, or gaps where the gutter meets the fascia
Weight from wet debris pulling the brackets loose. Worth catching before a section comes down.
Dark streaks down the outside of the gutters
Different problem, same visit. Those stripes are oxidized residue, and they don't come off with rain or a hose — they need to be washed.
Birds, wasps or squirrels working around the roof edge
A debris-packed gutter is nesting material and shelter. Where you see the activity, you'll find the clog.
Inside the Gutters and Outside the Gutters Are Two Different Jobs
Worth knowing, because they're often confused.
Interior gutter cleaning is clearing the debris out — leaves, needles, grit and packed soil — and making sure the downspouts run free. That's the functional job, and it's what protects your roof and foundation.
Exterior gutter cleaning is washing the outward-facing surfaces so they stop looking streaked. That part is included whenever we do a house wash for you, since it's part of the exterior of the house.
So if you've had a house wash from us, the outside of your gutters is already handled. The inside is a separate add-on, and it's the one that matters structurally.

We check the brackets and flag anything sagging or pulling away so you know about it before it fails. And we clean up what comes out — it doesn't get left in your beds.

Twice a year for most homes here, and more if you're under oaks or pines.
Northeast Florida doesn't really have one leaf-drop season — live oaks shed in spring, pines drop needles most of the year, and summer storms fill gutters fast. The timing that matters most is before hurricane season, because a clogged gutter in a heavy storm is when the real damage happens.
If your roof is clear of overhanging trees, once a year is usually enough.
Worth Doing at the Same Time
We're already on the property with the equipment, so it's usually worth combining. A house wash covers your siding, soffits, eaves and the outside of the gutters. Roof cleaning takes off the black streaks and algae. And if the overflow has been running onto a driveway or walkway, that's the moment to look at whether the base underneath has started washing out.

Do you clean inside the gutters or just the outside?
Both, but they're separate. Clearing the debris out of the inside is the add-on service. Washing the outward faces is included with a house wash.
Do I need to be home?
No. The estimate takes about 5 to 10 minutes and you don't need to be there.
What do you do with the debris?
We take it away. It doesn't get blown onto your roof or dropped in your landscaping.
Can you tell me if my gutters need repair?
We'll flag anything we find — sagging runs, loose brackets, separated seams, rotted fascia. We're not a gutter installer, but you'll know what you're dealing with.
How often should I have it done?
Twice a year under trees, once a year if you're in the open. Get it done before hurricane season either way.
My driveway pavers have sunk where the gutter overflows. Related?
Very likely. Concentrated roof water washes base material out from under pavers, and it takes the joint sand with it. Fixing the gutter stops the cause; the sunken section is a paver repair.
